Preparing students for performance, be it for grade exams, concerts or for the simple joy of being able to play is a rewarding challenge and a resonsibility. Through sharing a love of music and performance, there can be a great and positive effect on confidence and the development of life skills.

In particular I can help with;
By instilling a love of music and providing a solid technical basis for secure performance, students’ motivation can be enhanced, quickening progress.
Confidence is crucial to good performance. Whilst the pupil-teacher relationship is a nurturing and caring one it is also important for the student’s confidence for he or she to be able to recognise what is good and what needs attention. I encourage this self-awareness by working on a student’s understanding of how notation should translate into beautiful sounds and how we can make them, whilst at the same time, developing and utilising an awareness of the body an its senses to check.
By discussing different approaches to practice and learning skills, I aim to make practicing time as efficient as possible so that no time is wasted. I work with parents of younger children in the lessons so that they can help their child practice regularly and well.
I have a wealth of performance experience behind me and can help develop confident stagecraft and reduce nerves during performance.
‘Lessons with David are illuminating, engrossing, and great fun. David has helped me improve my technique in a way that enables me to play more musically, as well as to play more difficult music. Not all teachers are capable of doing this.’
Jo and Ellie (aged 9)
‘David came recommended to us via friends. I was keen to find a good piano teacher for my 9 year old daughter as I know how big a difference this can make; not only to whether a child makes progress, but to whether they develop a real love of music. We certainly haven’t been disappointed. Whilst being an outstanding musician, David is also a highly gifted teacher. He has high expectations and encourages independence and initative from the outset, but all this is delivered with humour and a lot of patience. I am also learning with David and have been very impressed by the amount of progress both my daughter and I have made already. Above all, his lessons are a lot of fun.’
